Local Information
The medieval town of Pézenas has long been a haven for artists and is a wonderful example of a real, working typical Languedoc village. Discover the old Jewish quarter of the village in a maze of winding streets and the many artisan shops selling handcrafted wares. There is a huge choice of restaurants and cafés and a famous traditional market invades the streets every Saturday - not to be missed !
Only 13 miles to the south lie long sandy beaches and the mesmerizing Mediterranean with all watersports and beach-front cafés.
Further afield, don't miss the amazing Pont du Gard and the beauty of Avignon and the pink flamingos and white horses of the Camargue.
The fortified city of Carcassonne has to be seen to believed, and for the adventurous, the Spanish border is only 1 and a half hours away, Barcelona 3 hours !
Finally, this is wine country ! If the Languedoc were a separate country, it would be the 5th largest wine producer in the world. So take advantage of the endless selection of wine tastings and owners' caves to find your favourite tipple at astounding prices.
Pézenas is approximately 75 minutes from the following airports, all serviced by the budget airlines: Montpellier, Nimes, Perpignan and Carcassonne. Eurostar / TGV from London / Paris. Easy access from motorways A9 and A75.
