Local Information
The property is located in the heart of the busy, medieval, hilltop village of Magalas which lies 10 mins north of Béziers; 30 mins from the Mediterranean coast and surrounded by beautiful vineyards as far as the eye can see.
The house is on a central crossroads in the village. The village (less than 1 min walk) has two café bars, three restaurants, post office, two bakeries, pharmacy, newsagent, bank with UK cash dispenser, newsagent, grocery store.
Outskirts of village: large supermarket, local wine outlet, pizzeria and petrol station.
The famous Chateau de Grézan (5km) is owned by the famous Lanson family from Champagne and features a wonderful restaurant and self-produced Faugères wine. Not surprisingly, there are vineyards surrounding all the small villages in the area, making quite an amazing spectacle.
Mediterranean beaches are only 30 minutes away with many pavement cafés and restaurants.
Large amusement and water parks for the children at Vias and Cap d'Agde. Golf courses at Lamalou and Béziers, both only 20 minutes away.
Great water sports and freshwater swimming at Lake Salagou (40 mins), ideal for a day out, together with a visit to the spectacular Gorges d'Héric. Superb walking and trekking in the Montagnes Noires and throughout the beautiful Languedoc Regional park.
Great shopping and restaurants in both Béziers and Montpellier.
The Spanish border is only 1 1/2 hours away, Barcelona a further 60 minute drive.
Carcassonne with its imposing fortified city and further vineyards of the famous, Corbières, Minervois and Fitou wine. Delightful harbours at Agde and Sète. Famous 'seafood' restaurants at Bouzigues and Mèze. Further lovely beaches at Marseillan.
Provence within easy reach for a day out. Stop off at the Pont du Gard before seeing Avignon, Arles, Nimes and the Camargue.
